Optical Drive Troubleshooting


Fault.1:-Optical drive cd tray not ejecting properly.
Sol.:-1. Check the power cable it may be loose.
          2   Check the rubber belt, it may be loose. Change it
          3    Some broken particle of a cd also may create a problem.
               So simply clean the cd rom.
4             CD ejecting motor may be bad. Replace with ok                  
         Motor.
5             Check the dry soldering on logic card.
6             If the problem is still than logic card is dead , Change it with same makes & Model (in this case Drive also not detected)

Fault.2:-CD ROM not access the CD and drive also not spin the CD
Sol.:- 1Check the POST screen, if cd drive detected in CMOS setting or in post screen it means power section is ok.

2. If not detected in cmos or post then check power cable, data          cable it may be loose or bad. Also check jumper setting

3. If drive is detected then check the spindle motor drive connector   it may be loose and even spindle motor may be bad it self. So replace the spindle motor with same make and model.

4. Check the dry soldering on logic card & also on spindle motor    cable connector it may be bad.

5. Bad logic card replace the logic card with same make & model.
Fault.3:-Disc is spinning properly but not access.
Sol: -1 Check the data cable it may be loose or bad.
2. Laser head may be dirty, clean it with the help of lens cleaner cd.
3. Laser head cable connector may be loose, tighten it.
4. Check the dry soldering on logic card.
5. Laser head may be misaligning, align the laser by set laser gainer.
6. Laser head may be bad replacing it. With Same mechanism (Before change the laser head check the laser beam of laser head)

Fault.4:- Disc is not access properly i.e. some time access some time not & computer gives the message: drive is not ready or insert the disc” .
Sol: - 1.Check the CD it may be bad.
2. Check the data cable it may be bad. By replacing with ok cable
 3. Laser head may be dirty. Clean it.
 4. Check the dry soldering on logic card.
 5. Laser head may be misaligning, align the laser by set laser gainer.
 6. Check the data connector it may be banded or broken out
7. Laser head it self may be bad replace the Laser Head with same model.

 Fault.5:-Optical drive not detecting in cmos setting or post screen or optical drive completely dead i.e. not detected not


access the CD.
Sol:-1.Check the power cable it may be loose or it may bad.
2. Check the data cable in optical drive it may be loose or bad.
3. Check the jumper setting of an optical drive it may be wrong.
4 Check the cmos setting it may be disable in cmos setting.
5. If all these are ok then logic card is bad, replace it with same make & model.
Fault.6:-CDRW drives not write the cd but it can access the CD
Sol: - Check the laser head it may be dirty. Clean it with the help of lens cleaner cd.
 2. Laser head may be misaligning, align the laser head.
 3. Check the laser gainer it may be not set proper
 4. Check the dry soldering on your logic card.
5   If the problem is still than replace the laser head.
